Cumbernauld Colts   2  v  1  Edinburgh University

Colts welcomed Edinburgh University to Broadwood in the Lowland League cup quarter final hoping to book a place in the semi's away to either East Kilbride or Gala Fairydean.

The first half saw the home side dominate possession without creating much in the way of chances, the visitors looking far more dangerous on the break with Fahey in goal making two fine saves in between the students striking both bar and post with shots from distance.

Colts though did go in at the break in the lead as Barclay fed O'Neill and his shot was flapped into the net under little pressure by the visiting keeper.

Into the second half and the visitors came out looking to get back into the game but found themselves two behind within 5 minutes of the restart. Broadfoot picked up the ball in a dangerous area between the lines and played a fine through ball into the diagonal run of Hunter. Hunter took a decent first touch but t gave the keeper a chance, the stopper at fault again as he didn't get there allowing Hunter to round him and slot home from a narrow angle with his left.

The Students though got themselves back into the game from a set play, a corner delivered from the Colts right headed onto the bar before the striker reacted quickest to head home with 20 minutes remaining.

Black became the third Colts player of the night to be booked for something other than a foul, having received treatment for an injury on the park the Colts decided to remove him and as he walked off to be replaced by the substitute Morris standing ready, the official decided the substitution couldn't be made then booked Black for returning to the field of play after he himself stopped the substitution.

Between that, handing out a yellow card for a kick out on O'Neill after the game had been stopped and booking Kirwan in the fifth minute of injury time for not catching a ball thrown nowhere near him by the opposition fullback it rather summed up a particularly poor display from the man in the middle.

Never-the-less Colts saw out the game without much in the way of trouble on their goal and progress to the next round where they will face East Kilbride at K-Park.
