SLFL U20 Development League
Peffermill, Edinburgh
The young Colts travelled to Edinburgh University looking for their first away league win of the season. A couple of late injuries and call offs resulted in some positional changes with Adam Beirne making his first start of the season.
The youngsters started confidently and were rewarded when Pirrie split the home defence in 16 minutes with a wonderful pass. This found McAteer running in from the right and the striker rounded the keeper to slot the ball home.
The home side rallied after this and 5 minutes later equalised when the Colts failed to clear the ball after a good save from Giles. This boosted Edinburgh University and they started to put the Colts under some pressure although Giles was not being tested in goal. Colts were offering little going forward and the half time whistle was welcomed by the coaching staff.
Half time 1-1
Some positional changes saw the Colts revert to a back four and they worked their way back into the game where they began to take control. The youngsters pushed the home side back and created a number of chances. Fergus was desperately unlucky to see his effort tipped wide and Devine was prevented from scoring by a last ditch tackle. Colts also had a strong penalty claim turned away in the dying moments of the match as they searched for a winning goal.
Full Time 1 - 1
The Colts youngsters now look forward to their away Scottish Cup tie against highland league side, Deveronvale.
