Cumbernauld Colts delivered a smash and grab performance away to East Kilbride what was Colts first win against their Lanarkshire rivals and the first in the League since early September.
The home side kicked off the match and dominated possession in the first 45 minutes but managed to create few chances. The first coming on 25 minutes as Gibbons strike from Strachan's cut back was well saved by Fahey down to his right hand side. And Fahey was called into action again, doing well to tip another Gibbons strike over the bar. Colts were restricting EK to long range efforts and were seeing more of the ball as the half wore on, the back four protected by ex EK player Lachlan were snuffing out the home threat.
Colts only clear opportunity of the half came through Craig Murray whose shot was comfortably saved by the goalkeeper.
Half Time 0-0
The teams emerged for the second half unchanged and EK were again seeing more of the ball in the beginning of the second half but as the league leaders went in search for a goal the game opened up and colts were looking to attack on the counter. It was an even encounter at this point as the Colts grow in confidence.
Fahey however was called upon with a couple of excellent saves but Smith up front for EK would have been most disappointed not to have done better after a defensive mix up by the Colts saw Smith one on one with Fahey but failed to exploit the error putting the ball wide of the goal.
The majority of Colts chances were coming in the latter stages of the game. Gavin Lachlan coming inches away from putting the visitors ahead from a free kick before Murray had another effort saved.
East Kilbride though continued to see more of the ball and were pressing to get a goal to put them in front but it was the Colts who grabbed the initiative, Broadfoot collected the ball 35 yards from goal and with no real passing options in front, he stepped forward firing the ball towards the goal with great power that the goalkeeper could only watch it fly into his net.
This majical moment took the wind out of the home teams sails, and although they continued to press the Colts held strong at the back for the remaining 10 minutes to see out the game to take a priceless 3 points.
