Cumbernauld Colts   2  v  0  Spartans

The Colts faced third place Spartans looking to build on their midweek win against Whitehill Welfare, with forth slot probably now out their reach the Colts were determined to finish the season on a high and continue their recent good form and were looking to do the double over their opponents, having secured a 1-0 win at Ainslie Park earlier in the season. Spartans were looking to get back to winning ways after a 1-1 draw last weekend as they chase a second spot finish.

Colts continue to nurse a number of their squad back from injury, with a number of first team personal missing, on a positive note O'Neil returned following his absence on Wednesday, replacing young McKenzie, Pirrie also made the starting line-up following his substitute appearance mid-week following his long layoff, replacing Black, and Jeff Fergus was brought in at right back for the unavailable Hunter, in all five under twenties in the starting eleven.

The match started off brightly with both sides looking to play the ball on the Broadwood carpet, the Colts however were looking the hungrier with their young side full of energy, not allowing their opponents to settle.
The home side got the early breakthrough in the 10th minute, that their oppression and pressure deserved, Broadfoot picked up the ball 25 yards or so from goal, he had the presence of mind to look up seeing the keeper off his line and with a great touch lobbed the ball over the stranded Carswell to put the Colts in front. The Colts had their tails up and were pushing for a second, with another decent effort from Broadfoot from 20 yards just going wide of the keepers post.
It was not all one way traffic however and the visitors looked dangerous at time forcing a series of corners the last of which saw the ball in the home side net along with keeper Fahey who had been barged by visitors big centre. As the half draw to a close the visitors had their closest effort when Maxwell fired in a shot from the edge of the box which rattled the Faye's crossbar. The remaining minutes played out with the Colts deservedly holding the advantage.

Half Time 1-0

The second half began and it was the hosts who again looked more likely to score as they continued to dominate possession, with Fahey rarely called upon. Despite the overall possession the Colts were finding it difficult to find that final spark to put the game to bed.

However they were to be rewarded for their tenacity and patience in the 70th minute when Daniel McFarlane, on his final loan appearance for the club before re-joining parent club Albion Rovers, was quickest to react in the box by striking the ball home in off the post after a knock down from a corner from the left hand side, 2-0.

Pirrie who had run himself into the ground was replaced by Lachlan who too is returning from a short layoff.

The Colts were now looking comfortable, and although Spartans went searching for a goal to get themselves back into the match, Colts keeper Fahey was rarely troubled.
The Colts went on to record their third win on the bounce in what was an entertaining free flowing game with the referee rarely called upon.

Full Time 2-0
