Lowland League Team / Narrow defeats
« on: August 22, 2015, 07:29:08 PM »
Colts third home game and third defeat and yet each defeat has been by the narrow margin of one goal. I thought that today the team didn't quite gel but there again it is difficult to assemble a cohesive team when injuries, births, weddings and holidays intervene. Now that is a challenge that Mourinho hasn't experienced!
Again, there was an element of bad luck especially the chance in the dying minutes that hit the crossbar. No Stephen 'Messi' O'Neill today but Richard 'Alves' Kirwin made some great overlapping runs as per usual.
Forza Colts!!
PS like the new scarves but have they been stolen from Leeds United Football club.  :)

I buy the Cumbernauld News every week and it's very pleasing to see the coverage they are giving to the Colts' games.

Lowland League Team / Supporting from a distance
« on: August 15, 2015, 05:06:59 PM »
Missed my first Colts game but thankfully followed the second half events on the lowland league live blog. 4-0. Fantastic! Don't know yet who scored the fourth goal but if the blog is accurate Stephen 'Messi' O'Neill scored the first two and Kirwin followed that up with what the blog described as a wonderful solo goal. I'm looking forward to reading the full match report. It's frustrating missing the game but the lowland league website and this quality Colts website provide some consolation.
Forza Colts!!

Lowland League Team / Victory!
« on: August 12, 2015, 10:51:18 PM »
:) A well deserved victory! I didn't expect to be at any away games but my son suggested that we should make the trip to Stirling so that we would be there to witness the Colts first win. So glad we made the journey. From start to finish the Colts showed 100% commitment and effort. Stephen ''Messi' O'Neill was on the scoresheet again but every player contributed to the victory not just the goal scorers. Once again the team were so well organised and disciplined. I also like the way the coaching staff show so much positivity, praising the players for effort and good play and shouting instructions when required. It's a pleasure to be a Colts supporter and my son, grandson and I have enjoyed all three games. Keep up the good work! Forza Colts!

Lowland League Team / Edinburgh City game
« on: August 08, 2015, 05:36:17 PM »
Football can certainly be a cruel game. Today's game could have gone either way but Lady Luck shone favourably on the Edinburgh team. One mistake by a player who had played well throughout the game and City scored the winner without any time left for Colts to stage a comeback. As a Colts fan I hope the players don't become too downhearted because of the results so far. The two defeats don't reflect the quality of the two performances. What the Colts have clearly shown is their ability to play at this level. After all, today's game was against the team that had won the Lowland league last season by a clear margin. If Colts continue to build on the organisation, discipline and performances shown in their two first league games then I'm certain the points and victories will follow.

Lowland League Team / My first game
« on: August 06, 2015, 05:09:30 PM »
Actually, the first senior game that I ever attended was Partick Thistle against Third Lanark. (Some time in the 1960s I seem to remember) Anyway, yesterday evening I, my son and my two grandsons attended the Colts first ever senior league game. A very enjoyable evening despite the score. Colts played some great football. It was difficult to believe that this team had only come together within the last month. They played as a team and they produced some quality passes and moves. I tried to convince my seven year old grandson that Stephen O'Neill was Cumbernauld Colts' Lionel Messi. I don't think he was entirely convinced but my son and I were certainly impressed by his skilful dribbling and runs, not to mention his goal. We also liked the way Gary Espener used his experience and strength to hold the ball until support arrived. The final score could easily have gone in the Colts favour. They didn't deserve to lose. I am looking forward to game number two even though it will probably be against the strongest opposition in the league.
