Colts 2-2 BSC

It was a hard contest and I do wonder whether BSC would have got back into the game if they had not scored a goal just before half-time. (Of course, we scored two quick goals just before half-time in our previous meeting one week ago) Perhaps, a draw was a fair result but certain aspects of the game were far from fair: dangerous tackles, verbal abuse, retaliation, goading, provoking and over-reaction. As a Colts fan I would like to say that we were innocent of such gamesmanship but I don't think we were.
I don't expect that we can return to the level of fair play and sportsmanship that were displayed in the past by the Corinthian football team but I do think that respect should be shown to the opposing team and to the officials. Thankfully, Colts normally concentrate on playing good football.

BSC 1-4 Colts

What a victory! What a performance!
To beat the team at the top of the league and to beat them 4-1 is a great achievement but it was the manner of the victory. The Colts played some beautiful football. Not only did we play a quick passing game with some very effective interchanges, not only did we create some great chances but the defence played magnificently. Greg Pascazio led by example. A performance that Cannavaro would have been satisfied with.

I don't doubt BSC will be looking for revenge at Broadwood next week and will want to continue their bid to take the title. It should prove to be an exciting game.

A seven goal victory in the South of Scotland Cup. Colts 7-0 Peebles.
A comprehensive victory. Sean Brown scores a hat trick. Captain Greg Pascazio scores his first goal for Colts (I think) Admin will need to confirm my belief that 7-0 is our highest scoring victory.
Through to the next round. Exciting times.
Well done, Colts.

Lowland League Team / Disappointing result but no reason to despair

It was a disappointing result because Colts played the better football, had most of the possession, created the most chances and came within inches of scoring the winner on more than one occasion.
Despite the disappointment there are so many positives about supporting the Colts and I speak as a fan with no connections to the club. In all the games I have seen, including this one, the Colts play with determination and effort and they are always well organised. (I have seen almost all of their home games since they formed as a senior team as well as a few of their away games)
Another thing that I like about watching the Colts is that we don't have any fans who direct abuse at the players or coaching staff. Admittedly, we don't have many fans and Broadwood does lack atmosphere but better that than the abuse I used to hear when I attended Clyde games. (I suspect that Jim Chapman's early sacking wasn't solely the consequence of poor results)
I have to say that I am pleased with the coaching staff and what they have achieved and it was great to see for the final quarter of the game the return of the O'Neill/Kirwan partnership on the left which has been so effective in the past.

Thanks for the stats, admin. I can see why I think of the Spartans as our bogey team because they were one of the few teams that beat us convincingly in the first season. I think what the stats show is that we are capable of beating any team in the Lowland League. Would I be right in saying that over our first two seasons we managed to beat every team in the Lowland League?

Colts 1-0 EK
I wasn't able to make the game but my son was there and he was able to give me the details. A great victory! To beat EK and not to concede a goal and to knock them out of the cup (the cup that we lost to them in the final last year) What a result! Another perfect victory!
In my mind, EK are our greatest rivals in the Lowland League. I see our games against them as the New Town Derby. Of course, the Cumbernauld derby would be against Clyde and that might be something for the future.
I still see our bogey team as the Spartans. (Even though we have beaten them once, I think)And I noticed that the last time we played BSC on their website the game was labelled as the yellow derby.
I suppose these are examples of how traditions begin.

Lowland League Team / First home defeat

We won in mid-week but today things didn't go to plan. We were playing so well in the first half and looked in control of the game but East Stirling gradually began to emerge and scored their equaliser just before the half time whistle. Unfortunately, things went from bad to worse in the second half and we conceded two more goals. It was frustrating because it felt as if we could have beaten them.
Although, I am not keen on a back three formation, I think with Kirwan back as a left wing-back then O'Neill would have more freedom to play further up where he can make better use of his dribbling, creativity and finishing.

Lowland League Team / Another perfect victory

I have just read the report of the Hawick v Colts game. Colts were probably unfortunate to meet Hawick with a change of manager and the inclusion of six new players. A victory and a clean sheet. That's good enough for me.
I wasn't at the game but from reading the report it looks as if the goalkeeper and defence played very well.
It should be an interesting season with EK trailing BSC and Colts still within striking distance.

Lowland League Team / Six of the best

We lost last week and we were a goal down within minutes this week but what a response!
A great team performance. I have to admit I'm not keen on three at the back but it's hard to fault a formation when the final result is 6-1. The players were excellent. Skill, effort and character.
And talking of character, credit must be given to Sean Brown who could have had a hat-trick but humility prevented him from clinching his third goal.

Colts 1-1 Spartans

Even though we were a goal behind it was disappointing not to gain all three points, considering that we were playing against ten men for almost an hour. In the end, we managed to scrape a draw because of a last gasp controversial penalty. Having said that, who knows how things might have turned out if our disallowed goal had been given. It did look as if the linesman had signalled a goal but the ref seemed to conclude that a foul had taken place before the ball had crossed the line.
Must have been a good turnout because when I went through the turnstile there were no programmes left.

Gretna 1 Colts 1

I wasn't at the game but I was checking the scores on the BBC and Lowland League websites throughout the afternoon. Things were looking very good at half-time. The Live League table was showing us as second because we were winning and Spartans and BSC were drawing but then things began to change. BSC took the lead in their game against Selkirk but it still looked good for us until Spartans scored a late winner and Gretna got a late equaliser. Disappointing.
However, in the cold light of a Sunday morning, I suppose being fourth in the league and gaining an away point brings some feelings of pleasure.

Lowland League Team / Our first defeat

EK 3 Colts 0

No Lowland League team goes to EK expecting to win but at half-time (0-0) the signs were good. We had not only held our own against them but, in my opinion, we had played the better football. Sadly, things changed in the second half. We missed a couple of opportunities to go in front and then they scored a goal from a well-worked move. After the goal, we pressed forward and that suited EK, especially their very talented and pacey left winger Adam Strachan. He had caused problems in the first half but with enough players back we managed to contain him, but in the second half when we had to push forward for an equaliser he knew that he only had to get around the right back and he was clear into the penalty area. He is certainly a player that needs to be doubled up on.

Anyway, despite the defeat, we are only one point behind the leaders and it is certainly no disgrace losing to EK away from home.

Lowland League Team / The Perfect Victory

Colts 1 Selkirk 0

As a fan of Italian football I remember reading that the perfect victory is 1-0. The logic behind such an idea is that the best of teams play patiently, holding possession and waiting for the moment to strike and when they do strike and get the required goal then they 'shut up shop' and prevent the other team from scoring. (Such a football philosophy is not very popular nowadays even in Italian football)

Anyway, Colts victory was perfect because Sean Brown scored a beautiful overhead kick, the defence kept a clean sheet and the three points take us back to the top of the league alongside Spartans. Well done, the Colts or as the Italians say 'Forza Colts!'

Lowland League Team / Home Victory

Six points out of six points. Equal top with two other clubs.
The team played well against Stirling Uni. (2-1 victory) The new players have blended in well.
Greg Pascazio is a good choice for captain. Confident and assured, able to organise the defence around him.
And Craig Murray, as vice-captain, is the right man for urging on the midfield and attack through his determination and energy.
Good to see Stephen O'Neill back in the team, he is always entertaining to watch. And Sean Brown keeps on scoring. (Long may it last)
Big game ahead on Saturday against Selkirk. They, too, have six out of six points and they must be feeling very confident after their 10-0 victory over Hawick.
Surely that must be the biggest victory so far in the Lowland League since its formation?

Lowland League Team / A Good Start

A good victory today. (2-1 against Edinburgh Uni) Every point is precious in this league and to get three points from an away game is an achievement. And perhaps with BSC's 3-0 victory away to East Stirling, this season might not be a predictable one.
