Lowland League Team / Thank you, Stephen O’Neill
« Last post by ErnSal on November 04, 2023, 11:38:37 AM »
I hadn’t intended posting on the forum again but having just discovered that Stephen O’Neill has left the Colts I wanted to express my appreciation of Stephen’s contribution to the club. (I don’t have a Facebook or Twitter account so this is my only means to do so). I have been a season ticket holder at Colts since the inception of the Senior team in 2015. In the eight years my son and I have followed the club we always checked the team sheet to see if Stephen O’Neill was listed. He has been a joy to watch right from the first season. Such a talented player. He has speed, skill and an eye for goal. When he was on top form he could go past any defender and produce assists and goals of sheer quality. Although he did at times upset opposition players and referees, it was an indication of his wholehearted commitment to the Colts. He will be sadly missed but I am grateful that I had the opportunity to witness some of his brilliant performances. Thank you, Stephen O’Neill.

Lowland League Team / Another season over. Changes afoot.

A very enjoyable way to finish the season. A five goal victory in the sunshine. Each season becomes more challenging but I have to admit that the plans to reposition the Lowland League as the sixth tier of football seems to me to be a backward step to suit the more powerful clubs in Scotland so that they can have a more competitive league for their B teams thus denying the majority of Lowland League teams the opportunity to reach promotion directly to division two.

On another note, this forum seems to have become my personal blog, perhaps because Twitter and other social media outlets have become the main sources of comments and discussion over the past few years. So, I think I’ll refrain from posting in the future and hopefully encourage others to make use of the forum for exchanging opinions and ideas as intended.

Anyway, onwards and upwards for the Colts.
Forza Colts!

Lowland League Team / Congratulations and Gratitude

Congratulations to Stewart McKenzie on his appointment as honorary President. There is no doubt that his effort and commitment to Cumbernauld Colts has provided opportunities for so many young people to become involved in football and other worthwhile activities. We never can be sure of the effects that we have on other people’s lives but I have no doubt that Stewart and his family have had positive and in some cases life changing effects on those that they have served through their commitment to the community.

Lowland League Team / No Middle Ground
« Last post by ErnSal on November 13, 2022, 06:22:06 PM »
A great result for Colts beating the Braves 4-1 even though the game itself wasn’t of the highest quality. Colts, this season, either win or lose. They are the only side in the league who haven’t drawn a game. No middle ground for them. It reminded me of a much more extreme example that I first heard from my father. He told me that when Italy reached the final of the World Cup in France in 1938, the team received a telegram from Mussolini with the words ‘Win or Die’. Not surprisingly they won. Lol. The story has never been confirmed and it may very well be an urban myth but if true it would certainly have provided some unwelcome but powerful motivation for the players. Thankfully, we have more positive motivations in the lower leagues: pride in performance and a determination to win. And there is no doubt that the Lowland league is second to none when it comes to competitiveness.

Lowland League Team / A great comeback

Two down to Celtic B early in the first half. Things didn’t look good. But what a great comeback leading to a 4-2 victory. A deserved win to Colts and an end to our run of defeats. A really enjoyable game and a very welcome result. Let the good times continue. Forza Colts!

Lowland League Team / Four in a Row

Four away victories in a row! 16 goals scored and only 4 conceded.
What a great run! Well done, Colts!

Lowland League Team / Outplayed but we did score three.

As expected Rangers  B team were fast, athletic, skilful and well organised. No doubt the team contains some stars of the future. However, on the bright side, although we lost six goals we did score three. So, it augurs well for the future if we can just make sure that we score more goals than the opposition. Lol.
Our team still needs time to settle and gel but it’s not made easy when team selection is hampered by injuries. Hopefully, things will come together soon and we will start picking up points.
Forza Colts!

I just want to thank Grant, the Club secretary, for his email apologising on behalf of the Colts club and I appreciate his explanation as to how the oversight occurred.
I am very much looking forward to the coming season.
Forza Colts!

Lowland League Team / Turned up. Game cancelled. No warning!

I arrived at Broadwood at ten to one for Colts scheduled friendly against Bo’ness. The usual entry point was closed. Two or three other supporters were also present wondering why the doors were not open. All of us checked the website, twitter and Facebook. The website confirmed the 1pm kick off. One of the supporters saw a young man in a Colts tracksuit and asked him about the kick off to be told that the game was cancelled. I texted my son to let him know the game was cancelled because he would be hurrying home from work to join me at the game. Just before I left I saw a club official leaving through the players entrance and I asked him what was happening. He said that the game was cancelled because Bo’ness couldn’t field a team. I informed him that there was nothing on Twitter about the cancellation. He replied matter of factly ‘Is it not up yet?’

I left Broadwood thinking what a waste of my time and the time of the other supporters. I would have thought that there would have at least been someone outside the stadium to inform supporters that the game was cancelled or better still information on the website, Facebook or Twitter.
Very disappointing.

Lowland League Team / Disappointing news indeed
« Last post by ErnSal on June 29, 2022, 01:35:53 PM »
I just saw the news that Stewart McKenzie is stepping down from his position as club chairman. As a supporter of the Senior team I am saddened by his departure especially when one of the reasons appears to be North Lanarkshire’s agreement with Broomhill to allow them to groundshare. I don’t know the ins and outs of that situation but it is concerning that it was a factor in Stewart’s decision to go. Colts have so much input into the community here in Cumbernauld with football teams of all ages open to males and females as well as their involvement in charity work both locally and further afield. Hopefully, North Lanarkshire are aware, that the people of Cumbernauld value the work that Stewart has done over the years and should be very cautious in making decisions that could put in jeopardy the success and effectiveness of Cumbernauld Colts.
