Lowland League Team / Picking up points
« Last post by ErnSal on February 25, 2019, 09:35:15 PM »
It was good to be back at Broadwood. Seemed such a long time since there had been a home game. We seem to have been picking up single points recently which is certainly better than no points. If we had taken our chances then we might have beaten Edusport but it wasn’t to be. It would be good if we could get to the sixth spot again as we have done in the two previous seasons. That would be an achievement because the Lowland League gets more challenging every year.
It still feels like we are not firing on all cylinders but every team has difficult patches. I am sure we will manage to turn things around.
Forza Colts!

Hi there, new stocks of hats with a bobble! and scarves are due in shortly, unfortunately are unlikely to be in for this weekend.  The club has mugs and pin badges and kit can be bought from the on-line shop.

Re Tesco, you get tokens when you shop there, the winner gets a sum of money towards their club, the club are seeking to support their special assisted needs section
Cheers

Will there be a chance to purchase things like scarves, hats (pom-pom free :D), as we all know how tropical it can be at Broadwood, and other miscellaneous things at the next home games?

p.s. What is the tesco thing about? Anything to help the colts I'll be more than happy to help, do we get the token from spending a certain amount?

Lowland League Team / New Town Derby Defeat

Colts 0-3 EK

A difficult game to welcome in the New Year. Unfortunately, our New Town rivals are a very strong side and are the clear favourites to win the league. Our 4-5-1 formation looked promising as we created a couple of early chances and managed to contain EK until the half hour mark but once EK got their first goal we couldn’t get back in the game. It seemed sensible to resort to the 4-4-2 in the second half but EK were the better side and deserved their victory.
The only consolation was the great soup that warmed us up on a cold afternoon. (If you haven’t tried the soup then you should. It’s great.)
Anyway, Colts shouldn’t be too disheartened, we beat Gretna away from home last week and if we pick up points against the teams below us we could get the fifth spot perhaps even the fourth. The important thing is to keep playing football as it should be played. I would be happy with that.

Lowland League Team / Losing the right way

Colts 1-2 BSC

We don’t like to see our team beaten but it’s much easier to accept when we give a good account of ourselves against strong opposition. There were mistakes and misses but it was refreshing to see the energy, determination and commitment that we expect from our team. We might not be able to challenge for top spot but if we can begin a run of good results then we could better our position compared to the last two seasons. It’s good to have a full squad again with players competing for positions.

Colts 1-2 Gala

Dull, cold and wet and unfortunately nothing in the game to brighten or warm the afternoon. We do seem to be going through a bad patch where things are just not clicking. Sloppy goals conceded, misplaced passes, missed chances, giving the ball away cheaply........so unlike the Colts. Despite this difficult time, there are reasons for optimism. With the return to the club of Gavin Lachlan and the return to fitness of Craig Murray, there will be greater strength in depth to our central midfield and that is perhaps the only area that we haven’t had a settled pairing. When Colts are in form there is no team in our division that cannot be beaten by us. We have great players and great coaches, so we need to put the bad results behind us and recapture the qualities and strengths that Colts stand for.

Lowland League Team / Our own Messi
« Last post by ErnSal on November 12, 2018, 08:45:57 PM »
Just read that Stephen ONeill has made history by being the first Colts player to make 100 appearances for the club. I look back with fondness on those early games when my son, grandsons and I went to Broadwood to support our local team and we thoroughly enjoyed watching the Colts especially the O’Neill/Kirwan partnership. I remember trying to persuade my younger grandson that Stephen O’Neill was none other than Lionel Messi. I don’t think he was entirely convinced but it was the skill and creativity of O’Neill that provided us with so much entertainment. He is the type of player that makes football worth watching.
Congratulations!

Colts 1-4 Gretna
I suppose all of us have days when we are just not ‘in the zone’. Thankfully, for the Colts such days are rare. It was just one of those days when the team was below par. The first half was scrappy and was probably one of the most lacklustre performances I have witnessed as a Colts fan. The second half was better but goals were given away cheaply and Gretna deserved their victory. I just hope that we can return to our winning ways. We have good players with a positive team spirit managed by two excellent coaches and supported by some dedicated volunteers. This is truly Cumbernauld’s only senior team committed to our town. Hopefully, in time, more Cumbernauldians will come out to support a great local team. Forza Colts!

Lowland League Team / Lady Luck deserts us
« Last post by ErnSal on October 20, 2018, 08:57:18 PM »
A 4-1 defeat to BSC ends our Scottish Cup run for this year but I can’t help feeling that with some good fortune the game could have been so different.
When I saw the line-up and the formation I was very optimistic. One of our strongest starting 11 for a good while.
The first half was very entertaining and as we were gaining the upper hand it did look as if we might go in level at half-time and take control in the second half but a controversial and scrappy goal seconds before the half time whistle seemed to be an omen that the gods were not on our side. And then a few minutes into the second half we lost another goal. We played some good football and created several chances but despite getting one goal back we went on to lose another two. It is difficult to see what went wrong. We were as good a side as BSC but we couldn’t convert our chances into goals. Lady Luck seemed to be on their side.
The one consolation, for me, was that Colts continued to play with determination right up to the final whistle.
The Colts never give up. Forza Colts!
Good luck to BSC in the next round. They are presently playing some good football.

BSC 2-2 Colts
Four goals and a game that deserves the cliche ‘a game of two halves’.
We didn’t really get going until the second half and just when it looked as if we were heading for defeat, Craig Holmes hit a shot that must be in contention for goal of the season.
Let’s hope that we can raise our game at Broadwood against BSC in the Scottish Cup because a victory could lead to a very rewarding tie against a team from the upper divisions. (Including Championship teams I believe)
