Lowland League Team / Convincing cup victories

Two convincing cup victories within eight days and good to see a variety of scorers. Maybe we can have a few good cup runs this year. After all, we are the League Cup holders.
And come to think of it, let’s win the league and do the double. (Whatever the double might mean when there are several cup competitions) Aim for the top but be satisfied with where you end up, having tried your best.
A bit of positive thinking there.

I was following the second half of tonight’s game on Twitter. A nail-biting finish. So relieved that we held on to our 3-2 lead. Beating Edusport away from home is a great result. It’s games like this that can make the difference at the end of the season. Often when the final points are tallied, two or three points can make a difference as to our final position. So pleased. Well done, lads.

Colts 0-2 Spartans

Since we joined the Lowland League Spartans have been our greatest challenge. They are strong, fit and fast. They play entertaining football. It was no surprise to see them win the league last season and going by early form I suspect it will be a contest between East Kilbride and Spartans for the number one spot. That is not to say that Colts are not capable of battling at the top but it won't be easy against these two teams who don't lose many games.
Although Spartans dominated the first half the Colts gave a good account of themselves in the second half and created a few chances but overall Spartans deserved to win. For Colts it is one of those games where defeat can become a learning experience. Certainly the result was no disgrace.

Colts 3-2 The Shire

Three wins out of four and two of the victories have been against teams expected to be in the top four this season. A well deserved victory. The Colts players were as usual well organised, eager to win back the ball when not in possession and creative when they were in possession. It was an entertaining game and I think by now all of our opponents will know that we are a team who play football as it should be played.
The Team/Brown partnership up front looks promising as the players complement each other to form a potent duo. But once again it was a whole team performance and it brought East Stirlingshire's unbeaten run to an end.
Next game: Spartans. Another major test for us.

What a great game! Colts 3-2 Kelty Hearts.
Our first league home game of the season. I have to admit I feared that we could be facing a heavy defeat because I had heard that Kelty not only had a much higher financial income but that they had breezed through their league last season (with only one serious rival) and that they were aiming to win the Lowland League.
Perhaps they took Colts for granted and they did dominate the early play but what a performance from the Colts. As always they pressed, they ran their hearts out (if you can forgive the pun), they created chances and they never gave up. What a victory!
We might not be a wealthy club but we have two great coaches, players who want to play for the club and give their all, people behind the scenes all doing their bit ( I did not envy the ladies at the pie and bovril stand who had to deal with one of the largest crowds that I have seen at the Colts games) and a small number of loyal supporters. Maybe, Friday evening games bring out some of the Old Firm Fans who might want to adopt Colts as their 'wee team'. There was nothing 'wee' about them last night. As my son said to me this evening after he had attended the BSC/EK game, when the Colts play well they can beat any team in the league. I agree.

Lowland League Team / A Gala Day opener

Just saw the score and read through the tweets. What a good start to the season!
Any away victory is an achievement but travelling down to Gala and winning is always pleasing.
(I was a bit worried when I read in one of the Tweets that the team were heading North to Gala. I thought that the bus driver might have had his map upside down.)
Looking forward to next week's first home game of the season.

My first Colts game since our glorious League Cup victory. A friendly against Wick Academy. It was an opportunity to see some new faces and to be entertained by Wick Academy's vocal support. (I.e. One man and a flag who provided a wide ranging repertoire of well known football chants adapted for his own team. Every team should have one brave and eccentric supporter but I have no intention of volunteering)
It is always a bit sad to see players leaving the club in between seasons but it is inevitable in smaller clubs. Stephen Kerr and Gavin Lachlan both contributed greatly to the Colts achievements in past seasons. I'll particularly miss Gavin's dad who had become a regular Colts supporter.
Anyway, it's good to see that we have held on to almost all of last year's squad and added some promising players. Today wasn't really about winning although we did win (3-2) but Wick probably, on balance, deserved a draw. It was a good opportunity to give some of the new and the young a chance to show what they were capable of.
I am very much looking forward to the new season knowing that each year the Lowland League becomes stronger and more challenging. Forza Colts!

Just back from Galashiels. What an afternoon!
1-0 behind at half time and down to 10 men. Things did not look good despite the sunshine and beautiful scenery around the ground.
Then we equalised. (Could we hold out for extra time?)
Then we took the lead. (Could we possibly win?)
Then we scored again. (I think we are going to win)
The Final Whistle. (Colts have won the League Cup!)
What a victory! A magnificent fight back.

Colts 3-0 Stirling Uni

Through to the League Cup final. A convincing victory over a good side.
I hope we are heading for our first piece of silverware but even if we fail we have a lot to be proud of: Three seasons in the top six and two cup finals. We might not be as wealthy as some of our opponents but we make up for it in our style of play, determination and achievements. If we play to our best then I'm sure we can lift our first trophy.

Lowland League Team / Colts fighting spirit

On Saturday we were up against a Gala team that were physically strong and determined but we outplayed them. This evening we were three one down to Vale of Leithen but we fought back for a 4-4 draw to earn a well deserved sixth position in the league. (Special mention to Sean Brown)
Now all we need is the same fighting spirit combined with our usual organisation and creativity and we can beat the University of Stirling to reach another cup final.
